Gimbal Bearing Removal Tool – 18-79820-2
The 18-79820-2 Gimbal Bearing Removal Tool is designed to safely and efficiently remove gimbal bearings from sterndrive housings during service or replacement. This heavy-duty tool expands behind the bearing’s inner race and extracts the bearing evenly, helping prevent damage to the gimbal housing during removal.

Ideal for marine technicians and DIY boat owners, this tool simplifies what can often be a difficult job, especially when bearings are tight or corroded in place. By applying controlled pulling force, the tool allows the gimbal bearing to be removed smoothly and safely.

How It Works:
The tool is inserted through the gimbal bearing with the expanding jaws in the closed position. Once positioned, the jaws are expanded by rotating the shaft so they grip the inner race of the bearing. A pressure plate is then positioned against the gimbal housing and the main nut is tightened to gradually pull the bearing free from the housing.

Recommended Procedure:
1. Remove the sterndrive according to manufacturer procedures.
2. Check engine alignment before service using the appropriate alignment tool.
3. Lubricate the tool threads and bearings before use.
4. Insert the tool through the bearing and expand the jaws to engage the inner race.
5. Position the plate against the gimbal housing.
6. Tighten the extraction nut while holding the shaft to remove the bearing.

Important Note:
If excessive force is required during removal, the bearing may be seized due to corrosion. In this situation, cleaning corrosion or applying light shock to the bearing may help free it before continuing to avoid damaging the tool.
