Garmin Headquarters

Kansas-based electronics leader Garmin has once again claimed the prestigious title of Manufacturer of the Year at the National Marine Electronics Association (NMEA) annual conference and expo, held last week in Providence, Rhode Island. This marks the 10th consecutive year Garmin has received the honor, setting a new industry milestone.

The Manufacturer of the Year award is one of the most coveted in the marine electronics field, recognizing excellence in product service and support. Voted on by NMEA dealers, certified technicians, and fellow manufacturers, this accolade highlights Garmin's ongoing commitment to delivering top-tier products and exceptional customer service.

In addition to the Manufacturer of the Year title, Garmin also took home six Product of Excellence awards in categories such as multi-function display (MFD), autopilot, multimedia entertainment, automatic identification system (AIS), satellite communication antenna, and marine apps.

“It’s a tremendous honour to be recognized by the NMEA for 10 consecutive years – an achievement no other manufacturer has reached,” said Dan Bartel, Garmin’s VP of Global Consumer Sales. “These awards reflect the hard work and dedication of the entire Garmin team in delivering high-quality products and outstanding service. We’re proud to be part of the NMEA community and look forward to driving innovation in the marine industry for many years to come.”

Bombardier Recreational Products (BRP) has announced plans to sell its marine division, which includes the Alumacraft, Manitou, and Telwater brands, along with its parts, accessories, and apparel business.

However, Sea-Doo personal watercraft, Sea-Doo Switch pontoons, and jet propulsion products will remain part of the company's portfolio.

In a statement, BRP president and CEO José Boisjoli explained, “After careful consideration, and given the current dynamics of the marine and powersports industries, we have decided to concentrate on our core powersports activities and sell our marine businesses.” He noted that the company has invested significantly in developing innovative marine products and enhancing production facilities, positioning the marine brands for strong value creation under new ownership.

Moving forward, BRP will focus its efforts on year-round powersports, seasonal products, parts, accessories, apparel, and its OEM engine business.

What does this mean for New Zealand businesses? Don’t worry PROMT Parts will continue to stock and supply BRP marine parts for many years to come!
